Lady's Biker Journal: Z250SL

A lady rider’s impressions of the newly launched Kawasaki Z250SL entry-level naked bike. Having less than a year of riding experience behind me, the Kawasaki Z250SL was an apt ride.Well suited to beginners, the bike would fit a petite rider like a glove.

Read: Kawasaki Z250SL
Read: 2015 Top 6 Malaysian Beginner Bike

With its ingenuous design, the Kawasaki Z250SL was built with the fairer sex in mind: petite, curvaceous yet compact enough that from a distance, it looks as well-stocked as a full-fledged big bike. Despite its genteel appearance, it rides just as fiercely as the toughest looking bike in its league.
Although, one of my few qualms with the bike was I felt it was built too slim for its overall height. From a lady’s perspective, this seemed rather like a lady running in high heels – albeit wickedly fast and nimble!

And, this slight feel of inadequacy only kicked in when I rode the Kawasaki Z250SL on the highway, between 90 – 100km/h. It dashes very well around tight corners and the city but the fact that it is a smaller bike only sinks in when one takes it sprinting down the wide open road.
A seasoned rider would not mind as much, but the Kawasaki Z250SL’s lack of a gear indicator thwarted my journey quite a bit until I figured out the feel and acoustics of the engine.

Speaking of engines, I’m no expert, but rest assured that the 250cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine kicks in enough fervour. Whether it is to overtake, or to open up that throttle down the highway, it does the job rather well.
Although this Kawasaki ‘chick ride’, as I like to call it, is not exactly the number one contender for the meanest and most powerful ride out there, it does make for a fun ride around the city, especially when one is met up with the challenge of heavy city traffic: turning corners is a actually breeze with this bike.

Furthermore, the engine responds so well that gear shifting is smooth, which would definitely help with new riders. Additionally, the Kawasaki Z250SL’s safety and comfort offered are unbeatable: another added bonus for new riders.

For those thinking of getting their first bike, the Kawasaki Z250SL is highly recommended. Not only is it tremendously easy to handle, but nothing beats the feeling of learning the basic skills of riding with a machine that is very well put together.

Kawasaki Z250SL carries a sticker price of RM15,739. Said price includes Kawasaki Malaysia’s offer of a two-year or 20,000km warranty (whichever comes first).

2017 Honda CBR 250RR

Overview
Honda has come up with its lightweight, highly efficient, twin cylinder bike named as 'CBR250RR'. The ‘Light Weight Super Sport Concept’ (CBR250RR) was unveiled earlier at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The production model has now been unveiled in Indonesia on July 25. Although still no news about launching in Malaysia, but if launched it is expected to sweep away its rivals with its high performance figures, design and much more. The key rivals of CBR250RR in Malaysia would be Kawasaki Ninja 250RR and Yamaha R25.

Design and Style
It has Robocop's superbike looks to me. Well, since the 250RR comes from the CBR series, so undoubtedly it is going to have a head turning design. It features some of the sharpest curves for cheating the wind over its passage.. On the exterior, the bike features matte-black-based low-contrast graphics which adds more to its beauty of the beast.

The 2017 Honda CBR250RR is based on a newly developed steel truss frame, with aluminium type swing arm. The right-side swing arm has been shaped to reduce exhaust pipe extrusion which makes the bike look slimmer while retaining the bank angle. The CBR250RR has got a similar front face as that of the CBR series. To add on its beauty, the bike has dual-LED headlights, sharp wedge-shape, long nose, acute tail, sharp body lines, sculpted fuel tank and chiselled tail section. It features conventional single side exhaust muffler which is supposed to be a 2-1-2 system that is compatible with the overall bike design.

Dimensions and Fuel Capacity
Honda CBR250RR is a big step by the Honda in terms of design and styling. The bike has got an overall length of 2060 mm, overall width of 724 mm and overall height of 1098 mm. The seat height is 790 mm and the wheelbase is 1389 mm. The bike has got a 145 mm ground clearance. The fuel tank capacity of the bike is 14.5 L with 1.9 L oil tank capacity.

Engine and Gearbox
Honda CBR250RR will get its power from the twin cylinder, 249.7 cc, 4-stroke, 8-valve, liquid cooled engine which generates 38.2 Bhp @ 12,500 rpm of maximum power and 23.3 NM @ 11,000 rpm of maximum torque. Has 6 gears of transmission, with multiple wet clutch with coil spring, she is clearly a rival for Ninja 250rr and R25.

Others
CBR250RR has ABS on her braking system. The braking jobs are performed by 310 mm front and 240 mm rear disc brakes. Could feel safer that way. This bike expected to reach 180 kph easily. Don't worry. This is a fast bike for 250cc.

CBR250RR has got a fully digital instrument console which includes digital speedometer, trip meter, tachometer, odometer, clock and fuel gauge. The instrument panel also includes ABS light, gear indicator, service reminder, low oil indicator, low battery indicator and rev limiter indicator.

Yamaha continues its extensive new model introduction programme with the news that the R-series will be expanded with the arrival of the all-new YZF-R3. Designed to comply with the A2 licence regulations, the sporty YZF-R3 has been developed as a lightweight supersport bike for everyday use. As well as being aimed at new riders, it fills the gap between the YZF-R125 and the YZF-R6, making it an ideal step up model for 125cc owners who are looking to move on. With its lightweight chassis as well as a smooth, powerful and efficient 321cc inline twin cylinder engine, this aggressively styled sports bike is designed for daily use in urban and highway situations. Developed with the aim of creating a ‘lightweight supersport bike for everyday use’, the YZF-R3 is a stylish and practical performance model that’s ready to open up the world of R-series to a new generation of riders who are looking for cutting edge design combined with exciting performance and excellent value.

The YZF-R3 is powered by an all-new 321cc inline twin cylinder 4-stroke DOHC 4-valve engine that benefits from much of the advanced technology seen on Yamaha’s larger capacity supersport bikes. The clear development concept behind this new engine was to create a ‘supersport machine you can ride every day’, and the architecture of the new powerplant is designed to ensure good rideability in the low to mid-speed range, together with a strong and responsive character at higher rpm. At the same time as creating a dynamic new engine that is both practical and exciting to ride, Yamaha’s engineers have also ensured that this efficient new 320cc inline twin also delivers good fuel economy.

The new YZF-R3 engine has been designed using cutting-edge technology that has already helped to establish the R1 and R6 as two of the most respected supersport models available today. The result is that this new inline 321cc DOHC 4-valve engine has a sporty free-revving character with strong performance across the range, making it an ideal step-up model from the YZF-R125. Featuring a bore x stroke of 68.0mm x 44.1mm and running with a compression ratio of 11.2:1, this compact engine develops 30.9kW/42PS @ 10,750 rpm, with maximum torque of 29.6Nm/3.0 kg-m @ 9,000rpm. The YZF-R3’s exciting and responsive supersport engine performance is ideally matched to the newly-designed chassis, making this new A2-licence category model the clear choice for new riders who want to experience R-series technology – while it also represents an ideal step up for current YZF-R125 owners looking to upgrade.

Guys we have found a new rendered image of R3 spreading over internet. Image is rendered by Autoevolution.com.Bike looks great in the red and white designs. Yamaha R3 will be a high performance bike with excellent riding dynamics. It will have a parallel twin fuel injected 300cc engine and liquid cooled system will be used for controlling heat emission.

A 300 cc bike from Yamaha’s YZF family will surely attract more young customers to their showrooms. Yamaha YZF R3 will be a direct competitor for Ninja sisters(250 and 300),KTM RC 390 etc. We can see a tough competition for the mid segment bikes(bikes between 200-600CC) in this year. This year will be a special one for all the bike riders. As you know there are many monsters getting ready to be launched this year.

About the specs and price, till now no official information is made by the company. But as some Internet magazines says YZF-R3 will probably have a 40PS of power. Engine will be mated to a six speed transmission system. It will probably share some of the features of Yamaha R25. Soon we can expect some announcements from Yamaha. So keep updating with us.
